Call for Applications
To all cultural professionals, artists, and colleagues,
We are excited to announce the first 3-week artist residency in Ulm, Baden-Württemberg (Germany) taking place from September 8th to 28th, 2025, as part of the EU-funded research project dialoguing@rts (https://dialoguingarts.eu/). We are looking for two artists in residence who will engage with the residents of a local neighbourhood in Ulm, using their artistic practices to facilitate open, participatory exchanges.
Who can apply?
Artists working in the fields of music, dance, theater, and other performing arts, with their main residence in Germany, are invited to apply. The application deadline is March 16th, 2025.
Residency Focus
The residency focuses on fostering artistic interaction with the community through participatory, culturally educational artistic interventions. Through collective, performative creativity, the residency aims to enhance social cohesion in a diverse urban society.
A key goal is to engage individuals who may not typically participate in traditional cultural programs. Artists will work collaboratively with the neighbourhood’s residents, shaping the space together through artistic actions that reflect the community’s lived realities. The project will explore questions such as: What cultural resources do the residents bring? What are their aspirations? How can the community come together to create something collectively through art?
Research and Long-term Impact
The dialoguing@rts project will also conduct research into the role of the performing arts in promoting social cohesion and inclusion. In the long term, the cultural department of the city of Ulm plans to continue using the space, ensuring the project’s sustainability. The project will serve as a model for future cultural initiatives, with findings incorporated into cultural and educational policy recommendations (anonymously).
